Sophia Aguilar is a photographer from Los Angeles who lives and works in San Francisco. She received her B.A. in Studio Art from San Francisco State University, where she developed an interdisciplinary practice working across photography, sculpture, textiles, and screen printing.

Sophia approaches art-making with a focus on form and a commitment to visual storytelling, exploring how personal experiences can manifest through tangible expression. Sophia was a resident of the Scatter Light Residency through First Exposures, where she developed work over six months, creating a cohesive body of work from an archive including photo sculptures and site-specific installation. Alongside her artistic practice, Sophia has volunteered mentoring youth in photography and has gained experience in exhibition installation and gallery operations while engaging closely with working artists and contemporary art audiences. Her interdisciplinary background has shaped an interest in creating spaces that feel accessible and community-oriented.

As a Gallery Associate at SF Camerawork, Sophia is excited to deepen her understanding of the arts ecosystem while supporting artists whose work fosters dialogue, experimentation, and connection.
